What Coverage Do Amtex Auto Insurance Offer?

Liability coverage:

Liability insurance covers the cost of damages caused to property or causing injury caused from an at-fault accident. The legal required coverage is the state minimum, which in Texas is 30/60/25. $30,000 for bodily injury per person, $60,000 for bodily injury per accident, $25,000 for property damage liability per accident.

Each state minimums requirements are different and only New Hampshire does not have a state minimum. However in New Hampshire you are required to show proof of financial responsibility.

Collision coverage:

Unlike liability, collision coverage will cover damage to your car from an accident. These can include accidents with another vehicle or if you hit a tree.

Did you know if you are leasing or financing a car your lender will most likely require you have collision coverage.  If you are leasing or financing your car we recommend taking a look at GAP insurance coverage

If your car is paid off then collision coverage is optional and not required by any state law.  You should consider the value and state of your car before adding any extra coverage which can increase your car insurance rates.

Comprehensive coverage:

So what covers damages caused by a non-collision? Comprehensive

Comprehensive coverage also protects you against car theft, vandalism, fire, natural disasters.

If you are driving on the road and you hit an animal and do not have comprehensive insurance then you would be on the hook for the cost of repairs.

Like collision coverage, if you are leasing or financing your car, then this coverage might be required by your lender.

If you are not then this coverage is optional and you should see your Kelly Blue Book value. Your car value should be higher than 10x the annual cost of comprehensive plus collision coverage to get this coverage.

Uninsured or Underinsured Driver Coverage

Based on where you reside, you could be legally required to carry this coverage on your car insurance policy. The key to this coverage is covering costs due to other drivers not having or not having enough insurance. This is a situation you do not want to find yourself in, as it means you will have to cover all costs out of pocket.

Underinsured motorist coverage operates in the same manner and your insurance will cover cost in the event the other driver’s liability coverage is not sufficient.

In some states, you could need to have personal injury protection instead of, or in conjunction  to, uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage.

Personal injury protection (PIP)

Personal injury protection, also known as PIP coverage or no-fault insurance, pays for medical expenses regardless who is deemed at fault.

Some personal injury protection plans will also cover lost wages due to injuries. Based on your state PIP could be an optional available coverage or it might be required.

Another advantage of PIP coverage is protection against injuries not caused when driving.  Let’s say you are going for a walk with your dog or on a bike ride and you get injured by a car. Based on where you live, you might be covered up to the limit you selected.

To check if PIP coverage is required in your state, check the  Insurance Information Institute (III).
